The Oxford Dictionary define God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority, a supreme being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature or human fortunes. Theopedia’s definition of God is, “God is the triune Supreme Being, the sovereign Creator and Ruler of the universe, the principal Object of the Christian faith.”
The question “Who is God?” is indeed a good question. The definition of God by Oxford and Theopedia is general in nature. When we talk to people from different faith we will get different definition on who God is to them. Who is God is a question we all need to know and understand. This is the foundation of our faith and belief system.
Who do you think God is in your opinion?
First of all we should ask ourself whether God exist, if the answer is yes, then we shall proceed to the attributes of God.To me He is the Almighty God and the Creator of the whole;universe,He sustain the whole creation by His power and He is omnipotent, omniscence and omnipresent
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, Thank you for your insightful comment.
ReplyDeleteTo me : The Lord God is one God, infinite and eternally existing and manifesting Himself to us in three Persons - Father, Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. They are co-eternal, coexistent and co equal in being, power and holiness. God is my heavenly Father who is also the Creator of the universe. Jesus is my Lord & Saviour. He is the soon and coming King. The Holy Spirit brings me into a relationship with Christ in the first place and He has continuing ministry in my life from the point of my salvation. He is my Comforter/Counselor. He indwells, guides, instructs and empower me for godly living and service.
ReplyDeleteBefore I was a Christian, I know a little about god. I just follow my parent footstep and do what they are doing. They never explain to me why we worship the god. Why there are so many gods that I need to worship? Most of the time, I just perform my duty to acknowledge his existent and pay respect to it. No conversation or fellowship with him but just asking blessing and protection.
ReplyDeleteBut after I became a Christian, I found out that God is so real in my life. He is so lovely and gentle. I was so interested want to know more about Him. There is a desire of both side – me and God – in fellowship and knowing each other. He speaks to me in every way in my life through a message or bible that causes me feel like He is very close to me. Whenever I feel down, He will strengthen and encourage me. Whenever I feel insecure, He will protect me and love me. He is just more than a God - a best friend. A friend that willing to sacrifice His life a ransom for many. This is Jesus Christ our Lord.
Hi Helen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your explaination. You have help in explaining the meaning of Triune God.
Hi Jimmy,
ReplyDeleteWow, this is wonderful. God is so real to you instead of just having a theology definition of who God is.
Different religions have somethings to say about who God is.
ReplyDeleteTo Christians, our definition of God lies on the revelatory of His living Word found in the Bible. Still many see God as how they experience.
To my opinion, God is what the Bible says about, and our experiences shall attest to what the Word reveals, or else the experiences shall succumb under the authority of His Word as God will not be more or less than what is said or disclosed in the Bible.
Hi Poh Kian,
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed our understanding on who God is comes from the revelation of the Word from the Bible and through our having a relationship with God.
Thank you for your comment and may we all continue to know more of God as we experience more of Him in our lives.
